Connecticut Sun star DiJonai Carrington has been a constant bucket-getter for her team this season. Her partner and Indiana Fever forward, NaLyssa Smith, congratulated her on X, formerly Twitter, after her recent performance against the Los Angeles Sparks. And the Sun guard had a two-word response to Smith's message.
"Awwwww babeee," Carrington tweeted, after reposting Smith's tweet.
The Indiana Fever forward called Carrington "tough" for her 19 points, four rebounds and an assist against the Sparks. Her stats helped her team win, 61-69.
Carrington is averaging 12.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists for the Sun. She made an impact in the 26 games she played and boasts a 39.6% field goal percentage. Thanks to her partnership with Brionna Jones, the Sun have one of the best records (20-7) this season and are favorites to lift the WNBA championship.
Smith has been on an incredible journey herself. She started the season as a part of a poor Indiana Fever team with one of the worst starts (2-10). However, like her partner, Smith has been a constant bucket-getter for the Fever. Alongside Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell, Smith has contributed to Fever's comeback this season.
DiJonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith finally break down viral foul
WNBA couple DiJonai Carrington and NaLysssa Smith have finally spoken about their viral foul from last season.
On an Instagram live last month, the former Baylor teammates talked about what had happened. The Sun star said she spotted a loose ball and tried to draw a foul on Smith. However, the aggressive advance of the Fever forward caught her off guard.
"She ran straight through me. Dawg, she held on for like at least 10 seconds, it felt like," Carrington said when asked by Smith about the inident.
Smith interrupted her partner and said the hold felt long because she was dreaming. The Sun star continued to explain how Smith had interlocked her hands while lifting her.
"She swears she didn’t do it on purpose. She was like, ‘I was just making sure you didn’t fall.’ Bro, the way that she wrapped them arms around, she damn near interlocked at the front," Carrington said.
However, Smith remained adamant that she was trying to help Carrington and prevent her from falling. Later in the video, she blamed the Sun star for striking an awkward pose and making the clip go viral. The couple accepted that each knew what the other was doing and laughed off the incident.
