Tonight, Dijonai Carrington and the Connecticut Sun will face off against the LA Sparks at the TD Garden, the home of the Boston Celtics. Although the game isn't set to air on national TV, it has already sold out with over 19,000 tickets purchased. Ahead of the game later tonight, Sun star Dijonai Carrington took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to put fans on notice.
As she explained, the game hasn't gotten the promotion it deserves from the league, or the attention it deserves from fans. As a result, Dijonai Carrington took matters into her own hands, and promoted the game herself, telling fans that they could tune in on X, formerly known as Twitter:
"Since we gotta do our own promo… We’re playing at the @tdgarden tonight & it’s SOLD OUT 19k+. First W game here ever. Historic. Not on tv, but you can catch it right here on twitter."
The game is set to tip off at 4:00 p.m. Pacific (7 p.m. Eastern), with fans able to tune in on Spectrum Sports Net and on X, formerly known as Twitter. In addition, fans can also tune in on WNBA League Pass to watch the sellout game at the TD Garden as Dijonai Carrington explained.
"It's kind of like a dream come true," - Dijonai Carrington's teammate DeWanna Bonner opens up on historic game at TD Garden
Tonight's game between the Connecticut Sun and LA Sparks is the result of more than a year of planning. According to Courant.com, the team has been working to play a game at the TD Garden for a year and a half.
The team, who normally play in Uncasville, Connecticut, will finally have the chance to play in front of a sold-out crowd at the home of the 2024 NBA champions.
While speaking in an interview with Courant, Connecticut Sun star DeWanna Bonner, teammate of Dijonai Carrington, spoke about the situation:
“It’s kind of like a dream come true type of thing, and I’m just happy I get to play in it. I can’t believe we’re actually here. You see it on the schedule, and it’s like, okay, that’s so far away. But then when you get here, it’s like, wow. I’m just ready to see all the fans and just make them feel welcome and thank them for coming.”
As Morgan Tuck, the Connecticut Sun's Director of Franchise Development, explained, the team had been hopeful that they would sell out the TD Garden in the first-ever WNBA game held at the famed venue.
Despite that, the optimism came with some caution, given the fact that no WNBA game has ever been held at the TD Garden.
Now, after not only finalizing a deal to play at the venue, but also selling out the stadium, the Sun will have a chance to move one step closer to first place in the W.
