After finishing as the runner-up for the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year in 2023, DiJonai Carrington has once again garnered league-wide recognition. WNBA fans were quick to praise herfor being named this season's Most Improved Player.

Since being drafted in the second round in 2021 by the Connecticut Sun, Carrington has developed into a productive two-way guard. Her numbers have gone up in each of the last four seasons with the 2024 campaign being her best in the pros.

Along with playing in 39 out of 40 games, DiJonai Carrington posted career-highs in points (12.7), rebounds (5.0), assists (1.6) and steals (1.6). Following this big achievement, WNBA fans took to the comments section to congratulate her.

Carrington's career year was a big reason why the Sun finished near the top of the standings this season. As the postseason continues, Connecticut has a chance to punch its ticket for the second round.

Heading into Wednesday's Game 2, they hold a 1-0 lead over Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Carrington did a little bit of everything in the blowout Game 1 victory as she tallied 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and one block.

Carrington took home the MIP award after receiving 28 votes, 10 more than runner-up Dearica Hamby.

DiJonai Carrington reacts to winning WNBA's Most Improved Player award

Shortly after the news of her Most Improved Player win circulated, DiJonai Carrington took to social media to react to it. She posted a series of photos along with a reference to her "Seat Belt" nickname. The Sun guard got the moniker for her play on the defensive end.

While they prepare for another playoff game, the Sun decided to do something nice for Carrington. They celebrated her in the locker room along with some MIP balloons.

This is a big accomplishment for DiJonai Carrington, who had to work hard to carve out a role for herself in the WNBA. That said, she can't lose focus on the main task at hand.

With the first round of the playoffs being a best of three, the Sun have to lock in if they want to put the Fever away. The last thing they want to happen is to square off against Caitlin Clark in a win-or-go-home game.

Securing her first personal accolade could give Carrington the confidence boost she needs heading into the Sun's biggest game of the year thus far.
