WNBA fans were both shocked and outraged when Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese received an MVP vote. In the MVP voting results revealed on Sunday, Reese was ranked 12th after receiving a single fourth-place vote.
Several fans referenced WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes, who has consistently praised Reese's performance and impact while taking a jab at the voter who cast their ballot for the Sky rookie.
"Does Sheryl Swoopes have a vote?," a fan said.
"Had to be Swirl Swoups," another fan said.
"That would be swoops easy to figure that voter out she sucks," one fan said.
The Athletic's staff writer James Boyd, who covers the Indianapolis Colts and has covered the Indiana Pacers in the past, was also astonished after Reese received a vote.
"Also — and this is not a shot at Angel Reese whatsoever. She has nothing to do with this — whoever used a fourth-place MVP vote on Reese should be banned from voting on league awards forever. They clearly don’t take the process seriously and can’t even pretend to be unbiased."
Another X user was appalled and "chuckled" at the voter who voted for the Sky rookie.
"I saw that too and chuckled. There’s not an honest soul that can objectively say Angel was a top 5 overall player in the WNBA this season. It’s nothing against Reese, she’s talented at what she does, but to vote her the 4th best player overall in the WNBA? That’s being unserious.
Veteran analyst Jason Whitlock urged the person who voted for Reese to reveal his complete ballot.
"I need to see the full ballot of the person who voted Angel Reese fourth in MVP."
In the MVP voting, Las Vegas Aces superstar A'ja Wilson claimed the award in a unanimous decision, receiving all 67 first-place votes.
Minnesota Lynx's Napheesa Collier secured second place, followed by New York Liberty's Breanna Stewart in third. Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark finished fourth, with Connecticut Sun's Alyssa Thomas rounding out the top five.
