Gilbert Arenas has a new beef and it's with WNBA legend Angel McCoughtry. There seems to be a misunderstanding between the two players, who both want the same thing for Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark. McCoughtry seems unimpressed by how Arenas conveyed his opinion about her and Clark.
In a video uploaded on Sunday, McCoughtry corrected Arenas for how he butchered her name on the "Gil's Arena" podcast. She then proceeded to blast the media for being selective because she didn't just want to play with Clark. She also would have loved to be a vet for Angel Reese and other young players in the WNBA.
"Don't try to make it seem like I'm trying to make a comeback to the league just to protect one player. No, any teammate of mine, I will protect because that's what vets do. Real vets! ... So don't do that to me, Gilbert. That's not what I'm trying to do. Next time, call me," McCoughtry said.
Angel McCoughtry was interviewed by TMZ last week wherein she said that she was open to being an enforcer for Caitlin Clark. Gilbert Arenas took it and ran with it, saying McCoughtry was perfect for the Indiana Fever.
However, the five-time WNBA All-Star was not happy to be portrayed in a way that she only wanted to play with Clark. She wants to get back to the league and serve as a veteran mentor for a team that would sign her.
"And what I said was, as a vet, I'm gonna take up for me teammates. It doesn't matter who it is. It's not my fault that the media honed in on one player," McCoughtry said.
The former first overall pick has not been in the WNBA since 2022, when she last played for the Minnesota Lynx. She has been dealing with knee injuries for the past five years, which might effectively end her career.
Gilbert Arenas responds to Angel McCoughtry's fiery clapback
Gilbert Arenas was a little baffled about Angel McCoughtry's rant about him on social media. Arenas didn't know what he did wrong because he praised McCoughtry for being a perfect vet for Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
"First of all, what the f**k did I say? What the f**k did I do? ... She probably got wrong information so her delivery to me, I can't take offense of it because she's reacting off most likely Instagram. Because it was Caitlyn Clark, whose name was there most likely, so probably her feed fled with 'Why you protecting her?' And that the black girl, right? That's most likely how this came about," Arenas said.
Arenas added that she still thinks Angel McCoughtry is a good vet and a player who could return to the league to be an enforcer for Caitlin Clark.
