Dwyane Wade had nothing but appreciation for the opening night of the Unrivaled league on Friday, Jan. 17. The first day of the league lived up to the expectations, providing thrill and entertainment aplenty.
The Miami Heat legend reacted to a swagger-filled winning play by Vinyl BC's Arike Ogunbowale and Dearica Hamby against the Rose BC. Ogunbowale and Dearica Hamby tried to recreate LeBron James and Dwayne Wade's iconic play.
After leading by just two points in the last minutes of the fourth quarter, Rhyne Howard scored a 2-point shot to give Vinyl a four-point lead. After Chelsea Gray answered with two points, cutting the lead again, Howard came with another answer and gave Vinyl a lead of 77-73.
Ogunbowale and Hamby took away any hope from the Rose BC with the last play. Ogunbowale made a statement play for her teammate, trying to recreate the former duo's legendary play with the Miami Heat.
Take a look at the play.
Dwyane Wade reacted to the post by the Vinyl IG handle.
"Yall so 🔥🔥🔥. It’s only right 🫡," Wade wrote in the comment section.
Later, Hamby also commented on the post. The $202,000 star hilariously told Ogunbowale that LeBron James and Dwyane Wade were the only right ones to do it in Miami.
"Dwade - bron… only right in Miami 😂😂 @arike_ogunbowale," Hamby wrote.
The Vinyl BC won the game 79-73 behind Rhyne Howard's 33 points. From Rose BC, Kahleah Copper and Chelsea Gray led the team with 24 and 21 points, respectively.
Dwyane Wade gets hilarious response from Vinyl player after "can't guard me" comment
On Dec. 9, Dwyane Wade and Vinyl basketball star Rae Burrell were spotted in Miami at Art Basel. The LA Sparks player posed with the three-time NBA champion for the picture, holding an Unrivaled official basketball.
Perhaps the inner competitor of the former Miami Heat star kicked in. Dwyane Wade wasted no time and posted a comment saying that Burrell couldn't guard him.
"[Rae Burrell] can't guard me," Wade wrote in the comment section.
Burrell also didn't back down, responding to the Hall of Fame basketball player with a playful response.
"[Dwyanw Wade] check up thennn🤣," Burrell responded.
Burrell didn't have a great night on the opening day for the Vinyl BC. While Ogunbowale, Hamby and Howard all scored in double-digits, she scored only seven points, shooting 1-of-4 shots from the field and 1-of-1 from the 3-point line.
Burrell and the Vinyl BC will play the Phantom BC in their next game. They will go up against each other on Jan. 20 at 8:30 PM ET.
