Popular comedian Kevin Fredericks responded to intense trolling from Caitlin Clark fans after he had proclaimed A'ja Wilson as the MVP of the 2024 WNBA regular season. On Monday, Fredericks posted a 95-five-second video on X (formerly known as Twitter), addressing the Indiana Fever rookie's fanbase.
In the video, he explained what led to the backlash after he had praised Wilson for her outstanding 41-point, 17-rebound performance against the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday.
"Dear Caitlin Clark superfans and stans ... can I say something?," Kevin said.
"Everything is not shade towards Caitlin Clark, at least from me. I like Caitlin Clark, but let me tell you what happened. I said yesterday that A'ja Wilson should win the MVP, and I will hear no more of it. What I was talking about is the narrative that she has other Olympians on her team or she shouldn't win because her team is only 5th or 6th (4th) in the league and not 1st or 2nd," he added.
Fredericks went on to clarify that the notion of him throwing shade at Clark was entirely unfounded, admitting that he hadn’t been fully aware of the incredible leap the Fever rookie had made in her recent performances.

The comedian also urged Clark’s devoted fans to "take a deep breath" and avoid turning every conversation into a debate about the 22-year-old, acknowledging her as a phenomenal basketball talent.
"People were like you are shading Caitlin Clark because she is the MVP race," Fredericks continued.
"I wasn't. I didn't even know Caitlin was in the MVP race. I thought it was either A'ja or Napheesa Collier. I didn't know Caitlin had jumped that high. I didn't think anything about her when I said A'ja should win MVP. Caitlin is good; she is great. I think she is going to have a great long career. But when I talk about her or other players, it's not shade.
"When I congratulate Angel for her rebounds, you know what all the comments are ... she's stat-padding. Everything ain't about Caitlin. She's good ... she is a phenomenal basketball player. You all take a deep breath," he added.
Caitlin Clark vs Angel Reese: ROTY debate
Kevin Fredericks also weighed in on the heated debate over who should win the Rookie of the Year award between Clark and Angel Reese.
While acknowledging Reese's impressive contributions this season, the well-known comedian argued that Clark has essentially secured the award with her outstanding performances over the last seven games.
"I thought Caitlin would win the Rookie of the Year before the season started," Kevin said.
"When the season started, Angel Reese and her both secured the Rookie of the Month award. I said, oh, Angel might make a case for her. After the Olympic break, Caitlin has pretty much locked up this award. She might even be All-WNBA Second Team," he added.
Clark has won the Rookie of the Month honor twice this season, while Reese hsa done so once.
