Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever's season ended on Wednesday night after their loss to the Connecticut Sun. Former Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver Dez Bryant blamed Clark's teammates, saying that the rookie guard didn't have any help.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Bryant thought that the Fever would have won if Clark had more help. The 22-year-old guard finished with 25 points, six rebounds and nine assists in the Fever's 87-81 loss. It was a close game until the final minute with the Sun knocking down their shots while Indiana missed theirs.
"If Caitlin Clark had a lil more help Indiana would be a problem. She have no help!" Bryant tweeted.
However, Aliyah Boston had a great game despite their loss. Boston put up 16 points, 19 rebounds and two blocks, while Kelsey Mitchell finished with 17 points, three rebounds and three assists. Mitchell did miss several shots late in the game, while Clark only had one shot attempt in the final three minutes.
The Indiana Fever had a chance to win the game but their inexperience showed in the clutch moments with two costly turnovers that the Sun converted into points. The young team should learn from their first playoff appearance, although there are some question marks heading into the offseason.
Mitchell will be an unrestricted free agent and has previously expressed her excitement about testing the market. She's coming off a career year, so there are certainly going to be suitors. Erica Wheeler is also an unrestricted free agent and several teams need a veteran backup guard.
Temi Fagbenle is a restricted free agent, which means the Fever can match any contracts she receives this offseason. Indiana is expected to have a salary cap of around $650,000, which could be enough to sign players to help them succeed next season.
Caitlin Clark comments on what's next after season ends
Speaking to reporters after the game, Caitlin Clark was asked about her offseason plans. Clark was unsure of what to do next given that she'll have the next seven months off unless she signs for a team abroad or possibly join the Unrivaled League.
"I was focused on beating the Connecticut Sun. I haven't thought too far down the line. I don't know what I'm going to do tomorrow or what I'm going to do the next day. So, maybe play some golf. That's what I'm gonna do until it becomes too cold in Indiana. I'll become a professional golfer," Clark said. [H/T IndyStar]
The Indiana Fever are likely going to make some adjustments to their roster if they want to continue having success next year. The Fever's main task is to bring back Kelsey Mitchell, who will be a free agent.
