Satou Sabally turned a lot of heads after confirming that her tenure with the Dallas Wings has ended. The veteran forward spent four years with the Texan franchise after being selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA draft but is now trying to find a new challenge in the league.
ESPN W shared the news on Instagram on Thursday, and fans reacted to it, including WNBA legend Lisa Leslie, who wrote a two-word message to share her excitement about Sabally testing the waters of free agency.
"Popcorn ready," she commented.
Like Leslie, plenty of fans are excited to see what's next for Sabally and have already named several teams that could use her services. The Indiana Fever is a strong candidate among fans, as well as the Chicago Sky and even the New York Liberty, where she could play with her sister, Nyara.
The 2025 WNBA free agency period will begin Saturday, but teams must wait to negotiate with free agents and sign them to their contracts. Teams can extend qualifying offers to core-eligible or reserved players from Jan. 11 through Jan. 20. Jan. 21 will mark the start of the negotiation period for all teams.
Whichever team wants to do business with Sabally will have its window open this day. In the case of the German-American player, teams must get permission from the Dallas Wings to negotiate with their star.
In four years and 97 games played with the Fever, Sabally averaged 15.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 41.8% from the field, including 33.6% from beyond the arc and 84.8% from the free-throw line.
Fans actively recruit Satou Sabally to their respective teams
Satou Sabally is an attractive free-agent signing for several teams around the WNBA. Fans are trying to lure Sabally to their respective squads. Indiana Fever fans have been actively trying to recruit her, as well as Chicago Sky fans.
New York Liberty supporters have joined this race, and Las Vegas Aces fans want to add more firepower to their already dangerous roster. This will be one of the hottest storylines in the 2025 WNBA free agency, but we should wait and see how Sabally handles it.
