WNBA legend and 4-time champion Sue Bird recently gave her take on who should win the ROTY award for this season. Once college rivals, the likes of Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are currently competing for the biggest prize for rookies and seem to be going neck-to-neck in an epic race that is set to go right down to the wire.

Both teams have had their fair share of struggles, churning out wins this campaign. However, not one finger can point to Reese or Clark, who have been the brightest sparks for their respective outfits thus far. While Reese may have a record-breaking double-double streak to back her claim, Sue Bird has a simpler method to determine the ROTY winner:

“I don’t do the stat comparison… it can help when things are close… I just do the eye test, and to me [Caitlin Clark] is Rookie of the Year”

Hence, for Bird, the eye-test suggests that Clark is the rightful winner of the WNBA ROTY award, a notion fans seem to wholeheartedly agree with.

“Eye test works. So does the stat test. CC is ROY.” one fan said.
“Wow, honesty," another fan added.
“Everyone knows," one fan wrote.

Most fans agreed with Sue Bird’s ‘eye-test’:

“Eye test does point to CC as ROTY," one fan said.
“Eye test and stats Caitlin is the clear ROTY," a fan wrote.
“Eye test, DNA test, school test. Every damn test out there will tell you CC is the ROTY and it was NEVER close," another fan added.

WNBA fans will be sleeping peacefully if Caitlin Calrk indeed manages to beat Angel Reese in the race for the ROTY.

Caitlin Clark’s offensive talent means she remains the favorite for ROTY over Angel Reese

WNBA fans are currently privy to one of the most memorable ROTY races in the history of the league. Head-to-head, it is Clark’s Fever that holds the advantage this campaign, currently leading 2-1 in the three games they have faced each other thus far.

Further, the odds clearly favor Clark, as the 22-year-old prodigy has effectively lived up to the expectations that had been placed on her even before she made it to the WNBA. Thus far, Clark is going at 17.1 points, 8.2 assists and 5.8 rebounds in the league, while Angel Reese has managed 13.5 points and 11.9 rebounds per game.

The Sky star also boasts of a 15-game double-double streak, which is a WNBA record, but arguably has more help on a roster stacked with talent, such as the likes of Kamilla Cardoso and Chennedy Carter. Caitlin Clark, on the other hand, has not merely played like a rookie.

She has already emerged as a team leader and leads the roster when it comes to both points and assists. Further, she is also the biggest offensive threat on her team and has shown plenty of evidence of the kind of league-breaking talent that she possesses, something that will be more evident once she gets the kind of help that her performances have deserved.
