WNBA Twitter was abuzz on Friday over perceived bias against Caitlin Clark and those around her. This happened after her Indiana Fever teammate Aliyah Boston got hit in the face during their game against the Las Vegas Aces at home.
The incident took place in the opening half of the Aces' 78-74 victory over the Fever in Indiana. As Boston switched on defense, she got elbowed to the face by Tiffany Hayes. She was immediately taken to the locker room. Interestingly, no foul was called on the Aces.
Fans were quick to jump on this situation and called for an alleged bias against Caitlin Clark and her teammates.
"The Caitlin Clark Effect is that teams are allowed to get away with murder against anyone associated with her. The league doesn't care who gets hurt by proxy. This has to stop. I hope Aliyah Boston is ok and isn't a victim of the leagues vendetta against this team," said a fan on X.
"And, these lousy refs didn't even do a review. Absolutely revolting since intent doesn't matter one bit when you elbow someone in the face.. That's not just a foul, but also a flagrant," another user followed up.
"There was no reason to put that elbow up except to hit her," a fan pointed out.
Some fan comments, meanwhile, expressed empathy for Caitlin Clark and the Fever over unfair treatment they are being subjected to.
"Fever get the shaft every game from the refs. Powers that be seemingly just don't like CC. Crazy to see," one fan said.
"I think the refs are afraid of the Aces! Why won't they call a foul on them. Mitchell had her arm grabbed trying to drive and nothing right in front of the official. Lexi can't even breathe on someone without a foul being called," another user asserted.
"Clark has gotten called at least once every game in the last 4 games for using her off hand during drives ... Im not saying she doesn't foul, but this is absurd to be a NO Call. If I was their coach I would have FLIPPED," said another.
Then there were comments which hit out on the WNBA as a whole.
"@wnba this is pathetic," a fed-up user laid down.
"The @wnba officiaiting is so damn one sided against the fever...league wide problem!" another chimed in.
Boston eventually did return after the incident, finishing with 14 points and eight rebounds but it was not enough to see her team get the win.
Caitlin Clark and Fever swept by Aces in season series
The Las Vegas Aces' 78-74 victory over Indiana on Friday completed a 4-0 sweep in their season series. They are the only team that the Indianapolis squad has not defeated in the ongoing campaign.
Indiana first lost to Las Vegas, 99-80, on May 25, then 88-69, on July 2. This week, they met back-to-back, with the Fever going down 86-75 on Sept. 11 before losing again on Friday.
In their four games against the Aces, Clark averaged 11.25 points, 7.5 assists and 6.25 rebounds.
The Fever (19-19) have two games left in their regular season schedule. They play the Dallas Wings on Sunday and finish things off in Washington against the Mystics on Sept. 19.
