Fever’s NaLyssa Smith’s brother slams Angel Reese-led Sky’s saga with Chennedy Carter

Indiana Fever's NaLyssa Smith's brother Rodney Smith II had his two cents to share on the Angel Reese-Chennedy Carter saga. After speculations that suggested the Chicago Sky star had taken a shot at Reese, the former later took to social media to clarify her words and that it was not meant to be a dig at the rookie.

Carter's comment about the importance of making layups had WNBA fans believing that she was referring to what was the biggest criticism in Reese's maiden season — missing layups, and in turn, it did result in padding her rebounds. With criticism pouring in, Carter took to social media again to set the record straight.

However, Smith's brother Rodney had his take on the whole shebang as he mocked the diss and the subsequent reactions.

"The way folks flip on players so fast, my goodness lol"

While one segment of fans were convinced that Carter was referring to Angel Reese, some believed it was her take on the ongoing Unrivaled action. Either way, the tirade continues to buzz on social media, and one of them weighing in on the matter was Smith II.

Chennedy Carter is now a free agent amid Angel Reese drama with Sky not offering a contract

While Angel Reese continues to be the face of the Chicago Sky, the team's leading scorer last season, Chennedy Carter is now a free agent with the front office not extending a contract.

Team GM Jeff Pagliocca thanked the guard in a statement for her contributions to the side for her "incredible season" last year.

"She’s extremely talented and is a player that can impact the game at the highest level in our league. We absolutely appreciate all she did for our team last year. However, we’ve made changes to our staff and will make changes to our roster. Those changes impact Chennedy’s fit on the team, so we wanted to give her the best opportunity as a free agent."

The Atlanta Dream drafted the guard in 2020 with the fourth overall pick. In her second season, Carter was suspended by the side and subsequently traded to the LA Sparks in 2022. She was waived after playing 22 games in the West and after missing the 2023 season inked a training camp contract with the Sky and played alongside Angel Reese as they failed to make the playoffs.

In her 84 games, she averaged 14.6 points, 2.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds. It will be interesting to see where the shooter lands in the upcoming season.
