After playing alongside Caitlin Clark during her historic rookie season, Aliyah Boston is now set to take the floor in Unrivaled. Ahead of the debut of the new league, the former No. 1 pick opened up on how the experience will help her grow with her new All-Star teammate.
In Unrivaled, Boston finds herself on "Vinyl Basketball Club." Some of the notable names she'll be playing alongside include Arike Ogunbowale and Dearica Hamby. Vinyl will be in action on opening night next week, facing off against Angel Reese and "Rose Basketball Club."
Ahead of her Unrivaled debut, Aliyah Boston touched on how partaking in this new league will help her WNBA career moving forward. She feels the added reps will help grow her game and confidence before returning to Clark and the Fever.
“Allowing me to work in space, and allowing me to just be confident in the stuff I’ve worked on this offseason, I think that’s the biggest thing,” Boston said. “Knowing that I put in the work, and knowing that I put in time, and knowing those things will execute.”
Boston, 22, is fresh off her second All-Star season with the Fever. She played in all 40 regular season games in 2024 and posted averages of 14.0 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
Aliyah Boston praises her new head coach in Unrivaled
After the roster filled out, Unrivaled sought out numerous talented coaches to lead the squads. As for Aliyah Boston and Vinyl, they'll be coached by Teresa Weatherspoon.
Weatherspoon was previously a head coach in the WNBA, but saw herself dismissed from her position after just one year. In her lone season with the Chicago Sky, she posted a 13-27 record.
Now in Unrivaled, Weatherspoon has an opportunity to further showcase her coaching skills. Early on in her tenure with Vinyl, she appears to be winning over the group. Aliyah Boston recently opened up on what she's liked from Weatherspoon thus far, citing the energy she brings to the game.
"I love her energy. That was the first thing when we got on the court," Boston said. "It makes you play hard and give it our all."
Playing under a different coach will also be a good experience for Boston, as it's something she'll have to do with the Indiana Fever as well. Following their playoff berth last season, the organization decided to part ways with head coach Christie Sides. Moving forward, the team will be led by longtime coach and analyst Stephanie White.
