Former WNBA player Val Whiting suggested recreating an old Nike WNBA signature shoes commercial with the brand's current WNBA signings, Caitlin Clark, A'Ja Wilson, and Sabrina Ionescu.
Whiting took to X to reshare the 25-year-old 'Little Rascals' commercial by the brand which featured former WNBA players Cynthia Cooper, Lisa Leslie, and Sheryl Swoopes being confronted about their playing styles in a sassy manner by a trio of young girls.
"They should remake these commercials with @nikebasketball athletes like Sabrina Ionescu, Caitlin Clark and A’ja Wilson. I think it would be really popular," Whiting tweeted.
However, it is pertinent to note that A'Ja Wilson does not have a signature shoe deal with the brand. The two-time WNBA champion does have a brand deal with Nike but the lack of a signature shoe deal has left fans arguing over why she doesn't have one yet as Caitlin Clark is close to getting hers even before making her WNBA debut.
Clark, this year's No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft, is expected to sign a lucrative deal with Nike, potentially earning up to $28 million over eight years.
Clark is set to become only the second active player to have a signature shoe deal with the brand after New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu.
A'Ja Wilson reacts to being called jealous over Caitlin Clark's signature shoe deal with Nike
In the aftermath of A'Ja Wilson tweeting a bible verse regarding patience on X recently, a few users claimed that the Las Vegas Aces star is jealous of Caitlin Clark receiving the signature shoe deal.
"The jealousy in the wnba is crazy !!!!!! Caitlin bout to bring a new level of viewership to your league and you hating on her ???," an X user replied to Wilson's tweet.
Wilson responded to the user, clarifying that she is not jealous and that she wishes the best for all 143 players in the WNBA.
"lol no one is jealous bookie! I have no reason to be lol I truly Wish all 143 the best fr ! Our league is hard as hell so to thrive and to stay in it consistently.. is huge! So pls stop with this jealousy stuff," Wilson tweeted.
Many other X users interpreted her post to mean that she is finally getting her signature shoe deal with Nike. However, no such reports have been officially confirmed yet.
