There is a new development with the controversy involving reporter Christine Brennan and Connecticut Sun players DeWanna Bonner and DiJonai Carrington. According to sources, Brennan has filed a complaint against Bonner after the Sun player took issue with how she interviewed Carrington.
Brennan's actions have been the subject of criticism from the fans and other members of the media. In fact, sideline reporter and commentator Cindy Brunson gave her response to the allegations that Brennan has filed a complaint against Bonner.
Brunson shared her thoughts on Brennan on X, formerly Twitter:
"From tone deaf to chaos junkie," Brunson tweeted. "Brennan can’t help herself."
The controversy regarding Brennan and Bonner stems from the Sun's playoff series against the Indiana Fever.
Specifically, it originates from the play in the first game of the series when Carrington attempted to swipe the ball from Caitlin Clark. Carrington missed the ball and inadvertently ended up poking Clark in the eye but no foul was called.
Brennan asked Carrington if the play against Clark was intentional and if she laughed about doing it. Carrington said no to both things but Brennan pressed her on it.
Bonner took issue with Brennan's line of questioning so she confronted the reporter about it. Bonner isn't the only person to have an issue with Brennan, as the WNBPA has reportedly asked for her press credentials to be revoked.
WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark has also said that Carrington's defensive effort that resulted in her getting poked in the eye was not intentional.
Christine Brennan denies filing a complaint against DeWanna Bonner
According to reporter Sarah Spain, two different sources confirmed with her that Christine Brennan filed a complaint against DeWanna Bonner after their confrontation.
However, Brennan herself came forward to challenge Spain's post with her own tweet. She also questioned Spain for not talking to her directly to confirm if this was real.
"Hi Sarah, this is inaccurate. It is false. I have not filed a complaint. I have not contacted anyone at the league," Brennan tweeted. "Your sources are wrong. You and I have had a long and good relationship which is why I always enjoy speaking with you. Why didn’t you call me before posting this?"
Spain responded to Brennan's question by apologizing that she did not reach out first. However, she maintained that she trusted the sources that gave her this report.
The Athletic's Michael Waterloo has also posted on X, saying that Brennan did not file a complaint and that his source comes directly from the league.
The WNBA or the WNBPA is yet to release an official statement that refutes or confirms the claims that Christine Brennan filed a complaint against Connecticut Sun forward DeWanna Bonner.
