Aliyah Boston had words of appreciation for former opponent-turned teammate Caitlin Clark after the Iowa Hawkeyes announced that the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year will have her jersey retired next year. The Hawkeyes announced that they will hang Caitlin's jersey on the rafters on Feb. 2, 2025, on social media.
Boston, who faced Clark several times during her college tenure, took the liberty to cheer for another program instead of her South Carolina Gamecocks to celebrate Clark's latest milestone.
"It's always go cocks but so happy for you sista❤️❤️congrats and go hawks for today😭," she captioned the post.
Caitlin Clark became the greatest player in Hawkeyes history during her four-year tenure, as she took them to back-to-back national championship games, although they couldn't beat LSU and South Carolina, respectively, in those matches. She broke several records during her stint, including the most points in DI basketball.
Clark played 139 for the Hawkeyes, averaging 28.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 8.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game, shooting 46.2% from the field, 37.7% from deep and 85.8% from the free-throw line.
Even though she didn't win the national championship, her legacy will live on for a long time, and the program is doing everything to ensure that.
The relationship between Boston and Clark seemingly became close during their first season together in Indiana. Similarly, Clark celebrated Boston when she became the first player in Worcester Academy's history to have a jersey retired. After Aliyah shared the big news on Instagram, Caitlin commented:
"Yea Sistaa," Clark wrote.
Erica Wheeler joins Aliyah Boston to celebrate Caitlin Clark's major honor
Aliyah Boston wasn't the only teammate excited about the Caitlin Clark news. Erica Wheeler also took to Instagram to share a message about the point guard's latest milestone.
"Nah this big time slime!!!🔥," Wheeler wrote.
Clark joined the WNBA in April as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft, but she's still making noise in Des Moines. She put the Iowa Hawkeyes on the map and created history during her four-year stint.
All the records and impressive performances keep paying off, and fans are excited to see the guard getting this honored. This ceremony could be a record-breaking one too when it comes to tickets.
