The Chicago Sky are set to resume their 2024 WNBA season following the conclusion of the Paris Olympic Games on Sunday. They ushered it in with a cryptic tweet that left WNBA fans puzzled.
Chicago's post hardly gave any details, save for the first letters of every word, leaving it open to various interpretations. The team wrote:
"W_ _ _ _ _ a _ _ w _ _ _ _ _ _: S_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _s!"

Fans provided varying takes on what the Chicago Sky are trying to convey. Below are what some of them wrote on X, formerly Twitter:
One comment playfully related the post to the possibility of the team bringing back American-French player Gabby Williams. Williams, who was Chicago's first-round pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft, starred for France in the gold medal game against the United States at the Paris Games and has been playing overseas in recent years.
"Ya gonna have Gabby Williams back and pay her enough?"
Most of the comments pertain to the Chicago Sky unveiling a new team mascot once it resumes its 2024 campaign.
'"We have a new mascot,' one fan simply put it.
"'We have a new mascot: Skye the Goddess?' another chimed in, while also sharing a possible mascot name."
There were others, meanwhile, who surmised a new player coming in.
"'Aja Wilson to the Sky??" a hoping fan wrote, referring to back-to-back WNBA champion A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces.
"'We have a new player. Stay for updates,' one chose to be "general" about it.
Meanwhile, one exhausted fan begged the team to be just direct on what they wanted to say.
"'I'm tired, just spill tea,' one fan pleaded."
The Chicago Sky, who have a 10-14 record, restart their campaign on Aug. 15 at home against the Phoenix Mercury.
Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese cannot wait for the WNBA season to resume
Chicago Sky rookie sensation Angel Reese is counting the days until they get to play again following the Olympic break.
In an Instagram story, which SkyTown Central reposted on its X page on Aug. 6, the former LSU standout made known her desire to once again take the floor and start hooping. She captioned her post with:
"i miss gamedays :("
Reese, selected seventh overall in this year's WNBA Draft, has been having a solid rookie season, averaging a double-double of 13.5 points and 12 rebounds in 32 minutes of play.
Despite being a rookie, she established a new WNBA record for consecutive double-doubles (15 games) while also being named to her first All-Star Game.
