WNBA fans hail Liberty's late-game defense for ending Angel Reese's double-double run (Imagn)

Angel Reese entered Wintrust Arena today hoping to get a win against the New York Liberty and extend her historic double-double streak. Her run was nothing short of remarkable, but the Liberty made sure that Reese left the building with no double-double.

Reese entered the fourth quarter of the game with eight points and had a couple of chances to get to 10. Unfortunately, with four minutes left on the clock, she couldn't finish a play under the rim, giving away a big opportunity to continue the historic run.

When the game was decided and the Liberty had secured their victory, she entered the court and tried to get that final bucket. Liberty players weren't having any of that and instantly stopped Reese, surrounded and forced her to pass the ball.

The intense defense in garbage time gained the Liberty a lot of respect from some fans. However, some felt that it was a bit 'petty' on the part of Liberty.

"Guarded her like they guard Caitlin Clark ONE time and that s***s over. While other teams intentionally fouled her to keep it going. Thank you liberty," one fan said.
"Respect the level of hate that drives this. Complete fair game on the Liberty’s part just check the score," another fan wrote with a touch of irony.
"I respect the pettiness," a third fan said.

Others said Reese had it coming for stat-padding, something she's been criticized for before.

"Stopped her from stat padding down 14 with 20 seconds left 😭 😭," one fan wrote.

Jason Whitlock criticizes Sky players for helping Angel Reese get double-double

Reese's recent performances have polarized the WNBA, with some praising her streak and others criticizing the way she's been playing. Veteran analyst Jason Whitlock called out the Sky players after they gave extra help to Reese to get a double-double.

"The entire WNBA is in on the Angel Reese gimmick. The Chicago Sky are at home playing against terrible team in Atlanta Dream.
"They are up seven points with 12 seconds to play. That means the shot clock is turned off, and they are up by three possessions. In 99.9% of the games, the offensive team inbounds the ball and holds the ball, get the clock run out," Whitlock said.
"Instead, they are inbounding the ball, and Angel Reese has her hands up as she is posting up. They are running a play just to get her a bucket," he added.

Angel Reese has demonstrated that she's an elite rebounder, but her scoring ability isn't doing her any favors. Once she polishes that part of her game, she'll likely become a bigger star in the WNBA.
