WNBA fans dug up an old article about Caitlin Clark’s high school soccer career, revealing her impressive 26-goal tally in just six games as a freshman.

As per a February 2024 article by Iowa Hawkeyes beat reporter Chad Leistikow, Caitlin Clark only played six games due to her commitment to Team USA in the FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship in Argentina, where she helped secure a gold medal.

Fans were shocked by the stat, with one comparing her to Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who is close to reaching Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 100 goals in 105 matches:

“🤣🤣🤣 26 in 6!!! Haaland come outside!”
“Erling Haaland you have 24 hrs to answer,” another fan added.

Some fans termed her average of 4.3 goals per game in high school "generational"

“This is quite simply a generational athlete, 26 goals in 6 games is unheard of,” one said.
“I’m sorry what? 26 goals in 6 games, that’s just outrageous,” another added.

One fan pointed out how many of Clark’s records are unprecedented, saying:

“I like that CC's records [are] always followed by the word "is the only freshman, rookie, player) Greatness in all she does.”
“I need like 5 full length cc documentaries,” another added.

One compared Caitlin Clark to an overachiever in school, excelling in both academics and sports, saying:

“that one overachiever girl in ur school who played every sport, represent the country, and is also an A+ student 😭

Caitlin Clark’s father says she could have been a soccer star

In Chad Leistikow's report, Brent Clark, Caitlin's father, said she could have been just as successful in soccer had she pursued it.

“Quite frankly, and I’m not trying to brag about it, but I think she probably could have been the same sort of talent in soccer that she is in basketball,” Brent said (per Hawk Central). “She could have been on USA, junior-national type teams.”

Brent also said Caitlin tried other sports like softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

During her soccer days, Brent recalled having to ask Caitlin to stop scoring so many goals, a concept she struggled to grasp.

“It was one of those deals where you had to tell Caitlin to stop scoring so many goals,” Brent said. “She didn’t quite understand that whole concept…[her objective] is to score.”

Caitlin Clark eventually focused on basketball, enjoying a stellar amateur career and now having a record-breaking rookie season with the Indiana Fever in the WNBA.

She has set the WNBA rookie records for scoring and assists, including the most assists in a single season by any WNBA player. Clark also set a single-game record for assists with 19.

She holds the league's rookie record for 3-pointers, recorded the first triple-double by a WNBA rookie, the first triple-double in Fever history and became the first rookie to post two triple-doubles.
