Sheryl Swoopes has been a hot topic around the WNBA of late. Swoopes stirred the pot again when she sided with Diamond DeShields following her flagrant foul on Clark on Friday.
Swoopes tried to lift DeShields after the veteran received criticism from fans. The four-time WNBA champion shared a positive message on X, formerly Twitter.
"@Diamonddoesit1 head up kid! Hate will not win!! You are covered and ain't nothing these evil people can do about that. All love for you!❤️," Swoopes tweeted.
This post didn't sit well with many fans, who didn't hesitate to call out the legend and label her a 'hater.'
"Her hate for Caitlin Clark knows no bounds and can no longer be denied," one fan said.
"Wtf is wrong with this woman? How do you excuse yet another cheap shot on CC & just continue to be such a bitter hater?" another fan questioned.
"Biggest CC hater telling another CC bully hater that "these evil people can't do nothing about that". Who looks evil?" another fan wrote.
Others mentioned that the Chicago Sky have been involved in controversies with Clark and even said that the guard shouldn't speak with Swoopes during games.
"Thug coach Spoon laughs after every one of these types of plays as well! It’s pathetic but the whole entire Sky program, except Cardosa, are ghetto thugs, racists, and jealous of a white girl being the face of the league!" one fan said.
Sheryl Swoopes refused to acknowledge Caitlin Clark's impact on the Fever's season turnaround
Before defending Diamond DeShields for going directly at Caitlin Clark, Sheryl Swoopes praised three of Clark's teammates while not crediting the guard for the Indiana Fever's recent results:
"I think the Olympic break really helped Indiana. I'm going to shout out Lexi Hull. I'm a big Lexi Hull fan. Lexi Hull shot the leather off the ball in their game against Seattle. Kelsey Mitchell is just stroking. She's just shooting the basketball. Aliyah Boston—almost a triple-double!
"If Indiana continues to play the way they're playing like this, they too are going to move up in the standings."
Sheryl Swoopes defended her stance and added more fuel to this controversy when she stayed silent for almost a minute after Caitlin Clark broke a WNBA record.
