Kayla McBride in Commissioner's Cup Final

The former Notre Dame star didn't have the best of games individually. Kayla McBride struggled shooting the ball, which was a surprise considering how well the veteran guard has shot the ball this season.

McBride was on the floor for 32:18 minutes against New York on Tuesday. She scored 12 points and shot a poor 21.3% from the field. The 33-year-old only made 3 of her 13 attempts, including 2-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc. The Lynx guard was 4-of-4 from the free throw line while also grabbing two rebounds and dishing out as many assists.

Despite McBride's poor shooting performance, the Lynx managed to overpower a star-studded New York Liberty team. McBride's average night was overshadowed by Bridget Carleton's phenomenal shooting performance.

Carleton knocked down six 3-pointers in eight attempts, finishing the game with 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Her 23-point explosion was pivotal in Minnesota's maiden Commissioner's Cup triumph.

Kayla McBride's is having a tremendous season

Kaylan McBride's performance on Tuesday was an outlier. It was in complete contrast to her performances in the WNBA regular season this year. McBride is one of the driving forces behind the Minnesota Lynx's dominant streak in the 2024 WNBA season so far. The Lynx are currently sitting atop the Western Conference standings with a 13-3 record.

Kayla McBride is averaging 16.1 points, 3.7 assists, 3 rebounds and 1.3 steals for Lynx this season. The most glaring part about the veteran guard's game has been her phenomenal shooting.

The 33-year-old is shooting a career high 46.4% from the 3-point range on high volume attempts. McBride is averaging seven 3-point attempts per game.

McBride is tied with Liberty's Sabrina lonescu for most 3-pointers made (52) this season, while she has the second-best 3-point shooting percentage in the league, only trailing Stefanie Dolson (46.7%) of the Washington Mystics.
