Hall of Famer Cynthia Cooper was all praise for Caitlin Clark. Thw four-time WNBA champion didn't hold back when lauding the Indiana Fever rookie for her achievements in her maiden season in the league, especially after catching her scintillating performance against the Dallas Wings earlier this season.
On The Mark Jackson Show, Cooper highlighted what made Clark great in her first season in the WNBA, and how she was more than just a legitimate, certified bucket.
"Let me tell you something, I came from the Dallas-Fever game, and Caitlin Clark ... the absolute truth. 28 and 12, winning on the road with Kelsey Mitchell?
"The ABSOLUTE TRUTH, I'm sitting there like 'oh my god'. She's so crafty. This is what people don't know about Caitlin. She's not just a 3-point shooter; she's a great passer."
Clark has been meteoric in her rookie season, averaging 19.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and a league-high 8.5 assists per contest.
Her offensive production combined with significant and consistent performances from Aliyah Boston and Mitchell saw the Fever make the playoffs for the first time in eight years.
Caitlin Clark makes WNBA history winning 'Player of the Week' for three consecutive weeks
Such has been her dominance for the Indiana Fever in the last few weeks that Caitlin Clark was awarded 'Player of the Week' thrice in as many weeks, setting a WNBA record as the only rookie to have achieved the feat.
In 10 games since the All-Star break, Clark has been propping up some massive numbers, averaging 24.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game shooting at a healthy 45.9% from the field. To add to the achievements, she became the fastest to reach 300 WNBA assists during the 106-100 OT win against the Atlanta Dream.
With 306 assists, the former Iowa Hawkeyes guard is on track to break Courtney Vandersloot's 314 assists in a season record and 14 away from Alysha Thomas'. She's expected to break the record when the Fever play the Las Vegas Aces on Sep. 11. The projection comes after Clark has crossed double-digit assists 10 times in her last 12 games.
The Fever is a bonafide threat to any team in the playoffs, and it's difficult to ignore Caitlin Clark who has been proving that she's one of the more generational superstars to play ball. Only time will tell how far she can take the Fever this season.
