The WNBA has announced the schedule for the third WNBA game and the first regular season matchup to be played in Canada. Fans are both excited and perplexed about it.
The Atlanta Dream will face the Seattle Storm on Aug. 15, 2025, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
"The WNBA has announced a third Canada Game between the Atlanta Dream and Seattle Storm who will be playing a REGULAR-SEASON game on August 15," SportsCentre's Kayla Grey tweeted.
Fans took to the comments section to air their reactions and one user suggested a game featuring WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark against UConn star Paige Bueckers.
"How about Fever Wings, Caitlin Clark vs. Paige Bueckers in Germany?" a user wrote.
Others shared the same sentiments about wanting to see Clark and the Fever in Vancouver.
"Are you guys stup*d? Who’s going to be the draw here!?!? Who’s the star player ppl will spend money to go watch…" one fan said.
"Why not the Fever? You'd make more money if Caitlin Clark was there," another fan commented.
"Seattle can’t sellout its home arena without CC, and Atlanta can’t do more than 4100 without CC. Stup*d decision," a fan wrote.
However, some expressed their enthusiasm for the Dream-Storm game.
"this will be an exciting game!!! 🥳," a fan commented.
"I was at the canada game last year in Edmonton at rogers place and it was great!!! Hopefully Toronto will play neutral site games across Canada," one fan said.
In the WNBA's first trip to Canada in 2023, the preseason game between the Chicago Sky and the Minnesota Lynx attracted a capacity crowd of 19,800 to Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. In May, the LA Sparks and the Seattle Storm played a preseason match at Edmonton's Rogers Place, which featured a sold out crowd of 16,655.
The WNBA expands with two more teams
Aside from the games played outside the US, the WNBA is also expanding with two more franchises. Toronto and Portland have been announced by the league as the 14th and 15th teams, with both set to join by 2026.
The Toronto Tempo will be the first WNBA team from Canada and outside the US. They will compete in the Eastern Conference and will play home games at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto.
On Sept. 18, a Portland expansion team franchise was announced and will play its home games at Moda Center. It will be the second WNBA franchise based in the city following the Portland Fire, which was part of the league from 2000 to 2002.
On Dec. 6, the WNBA held an expansion draft for its 13th franchise, the Golden State Valkyries, who are scheduled to play next season. According to reports, an expansion draft will also be held to fill the roster of the other incoming franchises.
