The Dallas Wings star, Natasha Howard, suffered an injury on Wednesday. The forward broke her foot in the season opener against the Chicago Sky.
According to the latest update from the team, Howard will miss three to six weeks with the injury.
The Wings had already been dealing with a series of injuries on their roster. With Howard out, the Wings have only eight players on their roster. Subsequently, the team signed Monique Billings, a free agent, under a salary-cap hardship contract.
In February, forward Satou Sabally had a shoulder surgery and her recovery is still far away. Additionally, Jaelyn Brown is out for a week with a nasal fracture. Howard’s injury only adds to the woes of the Wings going into the season, considering her impact on the team’s winning.
Howard played 36 minutes against the Sky and ended with 15 points, five assists and 13 rebounds. The Wings won 87-79.
Arike Ogunbowale and Natasha Howard help Wings secure a win against Sky
Despite all the Chicago Sky starters scoring in double digits, Arike Ogunbowale, Natasha Howard and Teaira McCowan led Dallas to a win on the opening night.
Howard shot 7-of-16 shots from the field in her 15-point game. She also had two steals and one block. McCowan was dominant on both ends of the floor. She had 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting, 13 rebounds and three blocks in 29 minutes.
However, the star of the night was Arike Ogunbowale. She took the game away from the Sky in the fourth quarter. Ogunbowale scored 14 of her 25 points in the fourth quarter alone. She shot 10-of-23 from the field and 2-of-6 from the three-point line. Ogunbowale also had seven assists.
For Sky, Marina Mabrey scored a team-high 19 points. Rookie Angel Reese had 12 points. However, she had a tough night shooting from the field, making 5-of-14 shots in 26 minutes.
Sky's other star rookie, Kamilla Cardoso, did not play in the game. She was listed out with a shoulder injury.
