Indiana Fever head coach Christie Sides was one of three coaches who received votes for the 2024 WNBA Coach of the Year award. Sides is in her second year in charge of the Fever and the team struggled early in the season. However, she was able to help Indiana overturn a 1-8 start to a 20-20 record and a spot in the playoffs.

According to the official tally by the WNBA, Sides receive one vote out of the possible 67 to come in third place behind Cheryl Reeve of the Minnesota Lynx and Sandy Brondello of the New York Liberty. Reeve received 62 out of the 67 to win her fourth Coach of the Year award and first since 2020.

The Lynx finished the season with a record of 30-10, which is second-best in the entire league. Napheesa Collier was a runner-up for MVP and won the Defensive Player of the Year award. Minnesota also defeated the Liberty to lift the 2023 WNBA Comissioner's Cup.

Christie Sides just finished her second season as head coach of the Indiana Fever, helping them to a 20-20 record and the No. 6 seed in the WNBA playoffs. They faced the Connecticut Sun in the first round, getting swept in two games.

It was a great turnaround by Sides given that the Fever started with a 1-8 record. Caitlin Clark was still adjusting to the league and their schedule wasn't friendly at all. Nevertheless, the 47-year-old managed to get all of her players to finally play as a team and they reached their peak after the Olympic break.

Sides was hired in late 2022 after serving as an assistant for the Atlanta Dream. She previously worked for the Fever as an assistant from 2017 to 2019. She also was with the Chicago Sky from 2011 to 2016.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday as part of the Indiana Fever's set of exit interviews, Christie Sides was asked to assess Caitlin Clark's growth under her. Sides had nothing but praise for the Rookie of the Year and how she stayed consistent throughout the campaign.

"She has endured a lot this season and has handled it in the most professional way. She's grown, and not just as a basketball player, but as a young professional. She is our point guard and going to lead our team, but she never tips her hat. She stays the course and stays consistent. A lot of respect for her," Sides said. [7:58 onward]

The Fever are in for a big offseason given the cap space they have and possibly improving the roster around Clark. Kelsey Mitchell will be a free agent, who will likely be a top priority for the front office.
