Atlanta Dream All-Star Allisha Gray raked in quite the moolah after she won both the Skills Challenge and the 3-Point Contest during the WNBA All-Star weekend at the Footprint Center in Phoenix on Friday. Gray won the Skills Challenge by completing the course in a whopping 32.1 seconds in the final round to beat the Phoenix Mercury’s Sophie Cunningham (34.5). She later aced the 3-point competition by defeating New York Liberty's Jonquel Jones in the 3-Point Contest with 22 points.
According to The Athletic's Ben Pickmann, Gray has a windfall of $115,150 (with $110,000 coming from @aflac). To note, her annual salary is $185,000. This would mean that the guard's prize money would be 62.2% of her season-long earnings.
Gray's WNBA compensation for the entire 2024 season now stands at $190,150 with the bonuses earned from her wins so far at the All-Star weekend.
Furthermore, Gray will also make another estimated $2,575 for being an All-Star Game participant on Saturday. That could be more if she manages to win WNBA All-Star MVP.
Speaking to ESPN's Holly Rowe, the guard joked that she wanted to go on a shopping spree and a little golfing after hitting paydirt. Safe to say, she can pretty much splurge on anything after Friday's wins.
"Not paying for another dinner": Las Vegas Aces forward A'ja Wilson expresses excitement after Allisha Gray's wins
Las Vegas Aces forward A'ja Wilson was one of the players cheering and whopping from the sidelines as Allisha Gray walked away with two pieces of silverware and a sizeable chunk of money for her efforts during the WNBA All-Star weekend. Soon after the Dream star's win, she took to X/Twitter to express her happiness:
"I’m so happy for Lish man OMG! I’m not paying for another dinner my friend a shootah."
Wilson could be seen clicking pictures as Gray celebrated by pumping the trophy in the air. The duo were all smiles as it further added to the more courtside content on Friday.
On the season front, Allisha Gray has been in good touch for Atlanta, averaging 15.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists. The Dream started as one of the teams looking to make the playoffs this season, but are stuck in ninth place after enduring an eight-game losing streak.
They are 7-17 for the season and are 1-9 in their last 10 games with the second-worst record in the league after the 6-19 Washington Mystics. Now, all eyes will be on Allisha Gray to see if she can pull Atlanta out of the rut they are in when the regular season resumes.
