Skip Bayless has joined the Caitlin Clark bandwagon. The FS1 sports analyst admitted via a tweet on Wednesday that he had finally gotten “the Fever.” He was so impressed by the Indiana Fever point guard that he gave her a new nickname: “Caitlin the Catalyst.”
On Sunday, Bayless was back heaping praise on the Indiana rookie. After the Fever’s 100-93 win over the Dallas Wings, the “Undisputed” host posted this on X, formerly Twitter:
“Caitlin's Fever JUST ... KEEP ... WINNING. She just went for 28 and 12 assists as they won for the 8th time in last 10 to go 1 over .500 after 1-8 start. Best record in the W since the Olympic break. 9 of last 10 at home. I can't stop watching. I got the Fever.”
Skip Bayless got all his numbers right. The Indiana Fever won their fourth straight game and are 8-2 in their last 10 outings. Since the WNBA resumed after the Olympic break, Clark and Co. are 6-1, the best record in the league during that stretch.
More importantly, Caitlin Clark has carried the Fever to a 17-16 record for sixth place in the battle for playoff positioning. They are one game ahead of the Phoenix Mercury (16-17) and trailing the Seattle Storm (19-13) by 2.5 games. After missing the playoffs for the past seven seasons, the Fever are likely playing in the postseason because of their All-Star rookie.
In Sunday's encounter against the Wings, Clark finished the game with 28 points on 10 for 19 shooting, including a 5 for 11 clip from behind the arc. She added 12 assists, four rebounds and one steal.
Skip Bayless thinks Caitlin Clark can challenge A’ja Wilson for the MVP
Leading into Friday’s marquee showdown between the Chicago Sky and the Indiana Fever, the Rookie of the Year race was a big headline. Former college rivals Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are neck-to-neck for the award. However, Clark seemed to have locked the ROTY trophy for herself after a jaw-dropping performance in Chicago on “Barbie Night.”
Skip Bayless had this to say about Clark’s recent string of impressive displays:
“I thought for the first half of the year Angel Reese was the WNBA Rookie of the Year. She had the double-double streak [and] she was running away with the rebounding lead in the league. Now, I’m starting to think Caitlin Clark is threatening A’ja Wilson for MVP! … I got the Fever.”
A'ja Wilson has likely wrapped up the MVP race with yet another dominating performance on Sunday. She had 41 points and 17 rebounds in the Las Vegas Aces’ 97-79 win over the Phoenix Mercury. Wilson’s closest pursuers are Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart.
Caitlin Clark, though, is only going to get better. Skip Bayless said that he can’t take his eyes off the Fever because of her. Expect him to keep cheering for the Indiana star as the Fever tries to finish the regular season with a strong finishing kick.
