Connecticut Sun coach Stephanie White shared her thoughts on the report suggesting that Minnesota Lynx's Cheryl Reeve starred in an altercation with the Sun's players after they won Game 1 of their second-round series last Sunday.
As the report was brought to her attention on Saturday, in the wake of the Lynx's 90-81 win in Game 3, White said she wasn't aware of that situation.
"I wasn't there, but that was a week ago, I don't really have any comment on that," White said.
So what happened after the Sun's 73-70 win at Target Center? According to Shams Charania and Ben Pickman of The Athletic, tempers flared between Sun's players and Reeve after Game 1. Reeve reportedly 'ran up' toward the opposing players once the game ended, as she didn't like how they celebrated the close win.
The confrontation prompted arena security to intervene to try to de-escalate the situation.
This series has been intense on the court. There were three physical altercations between Lynx and Sun players in Game 2, first between Napheesa Collier and Marina Mabrey, then with Mabrey and Kayla McBride and then McBride with DiJonai Carrington.
Minnesota Lynx recovered home court advantage after Friday's win over Connecticut Sun
After two intense games in Minnesota, the series moved to Mohegan Sun Arena. While most people expected the Connecticut Sun would take over the game, the Lynx stunned them from start to finish, taking a 90-81 win after the final buzzer. Napheesa Collier had a night with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Courtney Williams contributed 16 points and eight assists.
Although the Sun's starting five scored in double digits, with Brionna Jones leading the way with 21 points and DeWanna Bonner adding 16, they were unable to complete the comeback in an arena that expected a better performance.
Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET. The Lynx and Sun know that this season presents a good opportunity to win the WNBA championship and they're leaving everything on the field to achieve that goal.
Everybody is 100% involved in their team's success, as even Cheryl Reeve has taken things personally against the No. 3 seed Connecticut Sun.
