Liz Cambage says she left WNBA for healing and personal growth

Liz Cambage last saw action in the WNBA in the 2022 season for the LA Sparks, where she requested that she be released from her contract midseason. When she stepped away from the league, she said it was for "healing and personal growth."

She made it known in an Instagram post, which has since been removed, highlighting that while playing still remained close her, she needed to step back and address some personal things.

Her post read:

"While I'll miss rocking the purple and gold, I'll be taking this time to focus on my healing and personal growth ... I'm sorry to have left abruptly and I wish it would have ended on a different note.... I'm hopeful that the WNBA will do their part in creating safer environments and a stronger support system for their players."

She, however, did not elaborate what changes she wanted the WNBA to make although it has been surmised that she was pertaining to mental health and overall well-being.

In her final WNBA season with the Sparks, she averaged 13 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 blocks in 25 games. She then took her talents to the Israeli and Chinese women's basketball leagues.
