ESPN anchor Elle Duncan has come forward and apologized to former WNBA player Sherly Swoopes for her previous comments that criticized Swoopes' take on Caitlin Clark.
Duncan posted on X, formerly Twitter, explaining the reason behind her apology and comparing her own situation from a couple of months back to that of Swoopes'.
"I did the thing you aren’t supposed to do. I reacted to Sheryl Swoopes comments about Caitlin Clark based on quotes pulled for me by producers in the rundown. I should have LISTENED to the show. The same thing I IMPLORED CC fans to do when they were attacking me a couple months back 4 “hating” on her. I HATE that I’ve sent more vitriol her direction and I’m taking this BIG L! I’ve texted Sheryl the same thing. I will do better! I am sorry," Duncan posted.
Duncan's comments on Swoopes' takes were not very well received around the basketball community. However, she highlighted in her message that she asked the WNBA legend for her forgiveness and took responsibility for something she wasn't supposed to do and regrets sending unintentional hate towards Swoopes who was just stating her opinion.
What did Elle Duncan say to Sherly Swoopes concerning her Caitlin Clark take?
In an episode of the "Queen of the Court" podcast, Sherly Swoopes expressed her opinion on Clark stating that the Fever could make the playoffs and compared their roster to the Chicago Sky's.
"Is Indiana in the playoffs right now, without Caitlin? When you look at the overall team, like the pieces that they have, without question, Indiana has better players than Chicago from top to bottom. No doubt about it," Swoopes said.
However, on Thursday's episode of 'The Elle Duncan Show,' the ESPN anchor countered Swoopes' statements with a response of her own.
"This just doesn't feel right at all, and it is starting to feel a little bit like hate from Sheryl," Duncan said.
Duncan seemed to have invalidated Swoopes' take and accused her of hating on Clark. She claimed that the Indiana Fever are not a playoff-worthy team without Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston as the two stars have played a major part in the franchise's resurgence this year.
"Like the Fever, who won a handful of games last year, are in the playoffs this year? You have to understand that a large part of that is Caitlin Clark and Aaliyah Boston. Either one of them, I would have accepted either one of those conclusions."
Caitlin Clark is averaging 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game this season. She is currently enjoying the WNBA's international break but will be back on the hardwood on August 16 when the Fever face the Phoenix Mercury.
