NBA analyst Chris Broussard believes Caitlin Clark cannot and should not be snubbed for Rookie of the Year honors. Speaking on "First Things First," Broussard said the Indiana Fever rookie was a unanimous choice despite Angel Reese's prolific season and that Clark's efforts, combined with the team's results, make her a bonafide player to win ROY.
In his segment, Broussard said it would be a bad look for the WNBA if Clark was snubbed for Rookie of the Year.
“In many years [Angel Reese] would be ROTY. But this clearly should be Caitlin Clark... Leads the league in assists… Her shooting percentage is sky-high for the WNBA… If she’s not, it's a travesty and a bad look for the WNBA."
Clark comes off a second TD3 game on Wednesday in the team's 93-86 win over the LA Sparks at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. She recorded 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, cementing her case for ROY. Overall, she's averaging 18.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and a league-high 8.4 assists, leading the Fever to the playoffs for the first time in eight years.
"We don't wake up and think about individual honors": Caitlin Clark speaks about her and Angel Reese's ROTY run
Ahead of the game against the Chicago Sky, Caitlin Clark was asked about the Rookie of the Year award and how her name was considered right up front alongside Angel Reese. The former Hawkeyes guard said:
"I think me and Angel would both give you the same answer. We don't wake up and think about individual awards. I know that's what all of you think we do. I know we don't. That's what everybody wants to make this about. Both of our teams are competing for playoff spots. That is our main focus."
At the time of writing, the Indiana Fever are one of the seven teams that have made the 2024 WNBA playoffs. The Sky are No. 8 and with a win or two are expected to make the postseason by getting past the Atlanta Dream.
As for the ROY conversations, Clark currently has the edge over Reese considering Indiana's winning record and its rise to the sixth seed. It remains to be seen if the vote is unanimous or whether the league will see a twist by the end of the regular season.
