Chennedy Carter and Angel Reese have one glaring similarity: Both Chicago Sky stalwarts know how to get under their opponents' skin by talking plenty of smack. Even in the WNBA offseason, Carter is letting her defenders have it, regardless of which continent she's playing in.
On Sunday, Carter — who's been nicknamed "Hollywood" since her high school days — dropped a 40-point blockbuster to lead the Wuhan Shengfan Cranes to victory in a Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) game. "Silent killer" was most certainly not an appropriate moniker for Carter in this instance.
In a series of Instagram stories that Carter posted after the game, she is seen bringing the ball down the court, evading a defender with a spin move, and swishing a pull-up three that led to a frenzied reaction from the crowd.
"yeah imma talk my shiii all 2025," Carter wrote with the video.
Right after making the shot, Carter delivers some savory words to her crestfallen opponents, prompting her teammates to restrain her before things escalate. It appeared, however, that no one on the Liaoning Flying Eagles could contain Hollywood as she scored 40 points on 48.3% shooting. Carter also chipped in 12 rebounds, six assists, and a steal.
It's performances like these that have helped the 24-year-old earn the respect of her rookie teammate. Back in August, Reese called Carter "one of the best guards in this league."
Angel Reese and Chennedy Carter may not be teammates for long
Carter, it should be noted, is a restricted free agent this offseason. If reports regarding the Chicago Sky's plans are to be believed, she won't be sharing a locker room with Reese for much longer.
According to Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Sky won't be matching offer sheets for Carter. They will, however, be making moves to retain some other restricted free agents on their roster.
"The Sky have three restricted free agents: guard Dana Evans and Chennedy Carter and forward Michaela Onyenwere. Expect Pagliocca to extend offers to Evans and Onyenwere, while Carter will be free to test the market," reported Costabile.
With the Sky finishing dead last in the Eastern Conference last season, the Chicago front office is expected to make drastic moves to beef up the roster. Carter's departure could turn out to be one of those moves in this WNBA offseason.
