Less than two days before the Connecticut Sun resume their WNBA season, DiJonai Carrington went diamond shopping. She also teased returning to an old hairstyle as the Suns kick off the second half of their season against the Dallas Wings.
In a couple of Instagram stories, the 26-year-old guard shared photos of herself buying jewelry at Lux Bond & Green, a Rolex jeweler in West Hartford, Connecticut. It seemed like she was trying to buy something ahead of the second half of the season.
In the second image, she teases the possibility of returning to braids as she puts a loading sticker on a photo of her old hairstyle. She previously rocked straight and curly hair this season.
Here are the photos from her IG stories:
DiJonai Carrington among the most improved players this season
DiJonai Carrington was the 20th overall pick of the Connecticut Sun in the 2021 WNBA Draft out of Oregon.
She spent the first three seasons of her career as a role player and mainly came off the bench. She worked her way into the starting lineup this season, which has paid dividends for the Sun.
They have the second-best record in the WNBA after the first half of the season, just behind the New York Liberty. Carrington is one of the reasons for Connecticut's success, as she's among the most improved players of the season along with Chennedy Carter and Dearica Hamby.
Carrington is averaging 12.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game this season.
She was one of the biggest snubs of the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game. Nevertheless, she will need to sustain her production on both sides of the floor if the Sun want to preserve their seeding for the playoffs.
Connecticut Sun coach explains why DiJonai Carrington became a starter this season
In an interview with CT Insider in May, Connecticut Sun coach Stephanie White explained how DiJonai Carrington earned her spot in the starting lineup. White felt that Carrington was ready for a new challenge and that she excelled in her new role.
"She's ready for the challenge," White said. "I mean, this was an opportunity for her. She knew it was an opportunity for her coming into to the starting lineup, and she's taken it.
"Some players just wait for the opportunity, and then they think it's going to be theirs and they don't just take it. She's taken it, and she's taken ownership of it."
The Sun resume their season against the Dallas Wings on Friday at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. They then visit the Atlanta Dream two days later before returning home to welcome the LA Sparks and the Chicago Sky.
