The WNBA is currently in its Olympic break, but that doesn't mean Caitlin Clark's records don't get highlighted. The Indiana Fever star has taken the league by storm despite a complicated start to her career.
Clark is already one of the most recognizable faces in the competition and as the days go by, fans learn more about her remarkable records.
StatMamba shared earlier today on X that Caitlin Clark has already recorded more career assists than 75.4% of all players in WNBA history. As of right now, Clark has registered 213 assists in her WNBA career.
Plenty of fans had something to say about these numbers, showering Clark with praise and celebrating her early evolution in the WNBA. Several fans used one word to describe this feat: wild.
"I’ve seen a lot of crazy stats, but this one might be the wildest one yet. She’s 26 games in," one fan wrote.
"Ok. This is wild!!!! And to think she did it in just 26 games," another fan said.
Others lauded Clark's impact on the league and how she changed her playstyle from being a shooter to a facilitator. This might lead to her winning the Rookie of the Year award at the end of the regular season.
"They bullied her away from the 3 point line and into an assist leader she’s the most remarkable athlete in America right now and is under appreciated she’s truly amazing," one fan said.
"She has already revolutionized the sport. My guess is you will see plenty of upcoming players focusing on this part of the game," another fan said.
Caitlin Clark can set an assists record at the end of her rookie season
Clark currently ranks 25th on the all-time list of assists in a single season, with chances to climb at least five positions in her first game post-Olympic break.
The record for the most assists in a single campaign was set last season when Alyssa Thomas dished 316 dimes. Courtney Vandersloot recorded 314 in the same season, ranking second on this list.
Considering how well Clark has played this season, it's not abnormal to think that she could break this record at the end of this campaign. Even if she doesn't, it wouldn't take long for her to establish a new mark and confirm that she's an elite playmaker.
Sue Bird leads the all-time assists list with 3,234. If Caitlin Clark keeps up the pace, that record could be in jeopardy, but it's way to early to tell.
