Indiana Fever fans have had a tumultuous week and NaLyssa Smith has added fuel to the already difficult situation she's living with the supporters. The forward faced criticism earlier this week after Fever fans found out she often posted content about DiJonai Carrington on her X (formerly Twitter) account.
Today, Fever fans also caught Smith flirting with the possibility of joining one of Caitlin Clark's opponents during her college career. After Smith shared a post on her Instagram account in a purple vehicle, UConn star Paige Bueckers responded to Smith with three fire emojis.
"doing everything for everyone i almost forgot to live," Smith captioned the post.
Smith took this opportunity to drop the idea of them wearing purple, the color of the Golden State Valkyries, set to debut in the WNBA next season.
"purple look good on us," she commented.
Indiana Fever fans took notice of this and didn't hesitate to call out Smith on social media. One fan claimed the Fever has the worst locker room in the entire WNBA.
"This gotta be the worst locker room in the league," one fan said.
Some fans said she should leave the franchise.
"YEAH GET HER PUNK A** OFF MY TEAM," this person wrote.
"In the immortal words of Kobe Bryant… Ship her out," another fan said.
Others claimed that Smith did not want to be with the Fever.
"Yah she's planning her exit as we speak," a person tweeted.
"😂😂😂knew she ain’t wanna be there," another fan wrote.
One fan tried to shed light on this by saying Smith was just trolling fans.
Fans criticized NaLyssa Smith for being rough on Caitlin Clark
Before the situation with DiJonai Carrington, Indiana Fever and WNBA fans took exception to NaLyssa Smith's treatment of Caitlin Clark during practice. In the wake of the Chennedy Carter incident, Smith was spotted grabbing Clark by her arms, which seemingly upset the star rookie.
Fans didn't take that situation kindly and called Smith out for acting tough against her teammate and not against the person who pushed Clark in the back.
NaLyssa Smith has found herself under fire this week and yesterday's post only added fuel to the complex relationship she has with the fanbase.
