Breanna Stewart has been ruled out of Tuesday’s game against the Connecticut Sun. The reigning MVP was initially listed as questionable, but the New York Liberty have decided to give her a rest. It is the second game she will miss this season.

The 20-4 Liberty are 1.5 games ahead of the 18-5 Sun for the best record in the WNBA. Stewart’s absence could have a significant impact on the matchup.

In their previous encounter a week ago, New York edged Connecticut 71-68. “Stewie’s” 18-point, 11-rebound and three-block night was instrumental in the win. Without her, the visiting Suns arguably have the advantage in the rematch.

What happened to Breanna Stewart?

Breanna Stewart missed her first game of the season on Saturday in the New York Liberty’s marquee showdown against the Chicago Sky. Stewart was ruled out due to a hamstring injury. Jonquel Jones stepped up in Stewart’s absence, finishing the game with 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. New York won 81-67, while Stewart played cheerleader on the sidelines.

Jones will have to answer the bell again.

When will Breanna Stewart return?

The next time Stewart will see action in the WNBA will be next month. The league will take a break for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where Stewart and the rest of Team USA will compete.
