Jackie Young is set to return from a one-game absence to play against the Minnesota Lynx tonight at home in the Mandalay Bay. Young missed the Las Vegas Aces' previous game last Sunday against the LA Sparks at the Crypto.com Arena.
According to Callie Lawson-Freeman of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Young is back on the Aces' lineup after missing Sunday's loss to the Sparks. She will likely start the game with Kate Martin back to her usual off-the-bench role. Martin had 13 points, four rebounds and three assists filling in for her star teammate.
In addition to Young, the Aces will be without two more players – Chelsea Gray and Kierstan Bell. Gray has not played a game this season due to a lower left leg injury, while Bell has only suited up for one game and has been sidelined with a lower right leg injury.
What happened to Jackie Young?
Jackie Young missed the Las Vegas Aces' 98-92 loss to the LA Sparks due to an illness. Young was already not feeling like herself against the Seattle Storm wherein he finished with just three points on 1-for-12 shooting from the field, including 1-for-6 from beyond the arc.
The illness forced her to miss the back-to-back defending champions' second straight loss and fourth overall. It has been a tough start to the campaign for the Aces due to injuries to Gray, who was instrumental to the team's success the past two years.
Young stepped up in his absence, averaging 18.3 points, 5.4 assists, 7.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game this season. She has been magnificent for the Aces although it's a worrying sign that the team already has four losses in their first nine games. They had a total of six defeats last season when they won their second consecutive championship.
Jackie Young makes the 12-player roster for Team USA
Team USA announced its 12-woman roster for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever and Arike Ogunbowale were the biggest snubs from the roster, while Jackie Young is set to make her basketball Olympic debut for Team USA.
Young won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as a member of Team USA's 3x3 roster. The upcoming summer games will be her first as part of the main Team USA who are the favorites to win the gold for eighth straight Olympics dating back to 1996.
The 26-year-old guard has fully embraced her role with the Las Vegas Aces since she was taken first overall in 2019. She started slow before becoming a star in the past two seasons, including winning the WNBA Most Improved Player award in 2022.
