Sabrina Ionescu has been prolific for the New York Liberty this season. The Eastern Conference outfit became the first team to clinch a playoff berth this 2024 WNBA edition. Much of the contributions come from the sharpshooter who forms a potent offense alongside Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones. The 3x WNBA All-Star is yet to win her maiden NBA title, and this season just might be the one.
However, the Liberty has ruled out star guard ahead of their Thursday night matchup against the Dallas Wings. They host the struggling Wings at the Barclays Center, and have sidelined Ionescu with a neck injury.
What happened to Sabrina Ionescu? A look at Liberty guard's availability vs Dallas Wings
Per RotoWire's latest update, Sabrina Ionescu's neck injury renders her questionable ahead of the game on Thursday. She finds herself on the injury report alongside Leone Fiebich (questionable with rib injury), and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, who will miss two more weeks of action as she recovers from her right knee injury.
In all probability, the Liberty may just rest Ionescu for one more contest as a precautionary measure ahead of the postseason. She's day-to-day at the time of writing.
Ionescu missed the first game of the season. She has been a regular in all of the Liberty's games this season. In her absence, expect the likes of Courtney Vandersloot, Kennedy Burke, Ivana Dojkic, and Nyara Sabally to get more minutes.
Sabrina Ionescu has led NY's scoring this season with 19.9 points. This coupled with 4.4 rebounds, and 6.6 assists makes her a vital cog in the side's playoff run. She's shooting 42.7% from the field, and 35.7% from the three-point range this season.
The guard was in a rich vein of form, notching up 28, 30, 18, and 23 points in her last four games. Her purple patch was key in the franchise getting off to a clinical start this season. The Liberty are the only team in the league to have breached the 20-win mark.
