Jason Whitlock claims stark contrast in WNBA & NFL injury protocols after Caitlin Clark's eye-poking incident

Jason Whitlock has been in an uproar following the incident involving Caitlin Clark and Dijonai Carrington in Game 1 of the Indiana Fever-Connecticut Sun playoff series. Clark was poked in the eye early in the first period as she passed the ball to teammate Aliyah Boston. The Rookie of the Year winner struggled throughout the game and sported a bruise as she faced reporters after the loss.

Whitlock went on X, formerly Twitter, to call out Carrington’s actions. He said the ace defender “stabbed” the rising superstar in the eye and urged the WNBA to suspend the Sun guard. The "Fearless" host was in disbelief the league hasn't been taking steps to protect Clark.

On Tuesday, Jason Whitlock doubled down on his point and dragged the NFL, an even more physical sport, to prove his argument:

“In this sports world that’s all about safety, if someone in the NFL breaks a finger, everybody stops everything. However, when the woman single-handedly carrying the WNBA gets intentionally stabbed in the eye, nobody says anything.”

Whitlock wanted the WNBA to investigate the eye poke against Caitlin Clark based on the viral replays. He added that Dijonai Carrington’s action was “intentional.” The podcaster said he couldn't believe the supposed “social justice” and “racial justice warriors” had nothing to say about the incident.

Caitlin Clark told reporters after Game 1 that her shooting struggles had nothing to do with the eye poke. She added that she had a couple of open looks that would normally go in. The Indiana Fever star also expressed confidence about her team’s ability to bounce back from a lopsided loss.

Clark, during a lull in Indiana’s preparation for Game 2, was asked by reporters about the popular opinion regarding Carrington’s hit. The All-Star guard responded to the question:

“It wasn’t intentional by any means. You just watched the play, it wasn’t intentional.”

Some, like Jason Whitlock, have already concluded that Carrington did it intentionally despite Clark’s opinion. Following the rookie’s response, many are already insisting that the Fever guard only wants to take the high road to avoid more controversy.
