American sports columnist Jason Whitlock came to Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark's defense amid the team's losing streak. Whitlock gave his insight on why Clark's team is losing right now despite the rookie delivering spectacular performances.
Whitlock gave his explanation of Fever's situation in a long X post, where he disagreed with another post blaming the Fever's coach for their struggles. The former ESPN columnist said he is not a big fan of Indiana coach Christie Sides but can't blame her either.
"I do not blame the coach for Indy's 1-6 start. They're losing collectively. It's a rough adjustment to everything Clark brings to the table on the court and off."
He said that Caitlin Clark is careless with the ball and gives her opposition many turnovers to feast on. However, he also showed his faith in Clark and said that with time, the rookie could turn the Fever into the best passing team in WNBA history.
Whitlock compared her vision and anticipation skills to those of NBA legends like Magic Johnson, John Stockton, and Larry Bird. He suggested that the Fever need a high-profile coach to divert some attention off Clark and form a team that would play around the former Iowa Hawkeyes star. He name-dropped Mark Jackson and Isaiah Thomas as potential candidates for the coaching position.
Caitlin Clark's coach lists two changes the rookie needs to make amid Fever's struggles
Caitlin Clark's coach Christie Sides has listed two changes that she wants her rookie superstar to make following the loss against the Los Angeles Sparks. Clark scored a season-high 30 points in the game against the Sparks but still ended up losing it (81-88).
Following the game, the Fever's head coach attended a postgame conference and revealed two things the rookie needs to change. She said that Caitlin should spend less time talking with the officials in-game and do her job while letting them do theirs. Next, she assessed that her players should avoid getting technical fouls and leave it to her.
Caitlin received a technical foul at the end of the first quarter, and while Sides was asked about the reason for the foul, she did not say anything about it. It was also revealed that the Fever coach has changed shooting drills in training to focus more on her players' midrange game.
