JuJu Watkins and Jada Williams were asked to name the top five best-selling jerseys in the WNBA this season. Watkins named Caitlin Clark; Williams followed with Angel Reese; then Watkins asked if A'ja Wilson was on the list. She hesitated a little about the next pick, wondering if Kate Martin was included on the list. Then Watkins picked Breanna Stewart, but that was incorrect.
After being told that the third player on the list played in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Watkins went with Sabrina Ionescu, Stewart's co-star on the New York Liberty. Once they cracked the list, Williams made a strong statement about young players and their impact on the WNBA's sales.
"Yeah duh! I knew it had to be young people, because that's the ones that sell the most jersey," Williams said.
JuJu Watkins and Jada Williams are coming off their freshman seasons in college, with the first playing at a high level with the USC Trojans. She averaged 27.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 40.1% from the field, 31.9% from beyond the arc and 85.2% from the free-throw line.
Williams played 34 games with the Arizona Wildcats, averaging 9.5 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 2.4 apg and 1.1 spg, shooting 35.3% from the field and 84.5% from the free-throw line.
JuJu Watkins spotted working out with 2 NBA stars
JuJu Watkins already recorded a terrific season with the Trojans, but she's working to go further and lead her team to a potential national championship. She worked out with Sacramento Kings star DeMar DeRozan and assistant coach Doug Christie. The video showed DeRozan teaching Watkins how to create separation from her defender before attempting a mid-range shot.
She also linked up with Kyrie Irving and former LA Lakers coach Phil Handy for a workout, paying homage to Kobe Bryant on the day he would've turned 46.
"Bean Day = work day! #theworkisreal #mambaforever," Handy captioned the post.
Last week was very busy for Watkins, who received plenty of positive comments from fans who predicted she'd have a prolific career in the WNBA.
After the likes of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese left college to become pros, a new group of players led by Watkins, Paige Bueckers, Hailey Van Lith and more are ready to start a new season where they'll try to lead their programs to a national title.
