Chicago Sky center Kamilla Cardoso has been sharing updates on her offseason activities in Shanghai, China. Following the conclusion of the WNBA season last August, Cardoso signed with the Shanghai Swordfish of the Women's Chinese Basketball Association, keeping herself busy during the offseason.
On Monday, Cardoso took to social media to share her latest experiences in China. She posted pictures of herself in front of famous Shanghai landmarks, along with photos highlighting her bond with her Chinese friends. Additionally, she shared snapshots from her games in the top women's basketball league in the country.
“china dump 🤪,” she wrote.
The 23-year-old chose to spend her offseason overseas following a solid year with the Sky. Based on her performances, she has adjusted quickly to the international style of the game.
The six-foot-seven center has been a force to be reckoned with in China as she is averaging a double-double with 20.3 points and 10.1 rebounds to go along with 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
Cardoso was a rookie for the Sky in the 2024 season after being the third overall pick in what was considered a loaded draft class. However, she was overshadowed by her teammate Angel Reese, who was named an All-Star in her first season and finished as the runner-up for the Rookie of the Year award.
Despite playing alongside a double-double machine like Reese, Cardoso proved to be a reliable big for the Sky, averaging 9.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game in her first year in the WNBA.
Cardoso played in 32 of the 40 games during her rookie year, starting in 29 of them. She shot 52% from the field on more than seven attempts per game.
Teammates Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso bury the hatchet before WNBA season
Angel Reese had heated matchups against Sky teammate Kamilla Cardoso during their college days, including one controversial moment on the court. In a game between LSU and South Carolina, Reese accidentally pulled Cardoso’s wig while fighting for a rebound.
The sequence had stirred controversy, but when Reese and Cardoso were both drafted by the Sky in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Reese wasted no time in making amends and quickly buried the hatchet with Cardoso.
"That was an accident…I was going for a rebound. It was something I wanted, I went to go get it, something was in my way, it was the wig. It was an accident, though,” Reese said in her podcast “Unapologetically Angel.”
“When I got to the draft, the first thing I made sure I did was apologize to Kamilla because I know we was going to be teammates. I was like, 'Kamilla, I want to tell you this right now. I apologize for your wig,’" she added.
The two have become cornerstones of the Sky, providing the team with a formidable frontcourt duo for the coming years.
