Kate Martin and Caitlin Clark are not done playing together. At least, that's what the newly minted Golden State Valkyries guard's father feels. Martin's father, Matt, watched his daughter and the Indiana Fever sensation share the hardwood at Iowa and believes there's every opportunity for the duo to reunite in the future.
Speaking on KCCI News 8, Matt did not rule out the possibility of Martin and Clark playing together for the same outfit at some point in their careers.
"I just don't think Caitlin & Kate are done. I think they'll be reunited in some way again."
Both Kate Martin and Caitlin Clark made the playoffs in their maiden rookie seasons with the Las Vegas Aces and the Fever. Clark went on to become the face of the Fever, winning ROTY, and now Martin will look to show her PG prowess when she suits up for Golden State this new season.
"Wired the same way as me": Caitlin Clark sheds light on Kate Martin's personality
Earlier, Caitlin Clark revealed a side of Kate Martin the whole didn't know. With both players teammates at Iowa, Clark knew Martin as more than just a key component of the Hawkeye's outfit. Per The Athletic's Scott Dochterman, the ROTY, then yet to make her mark in the WNBA, said of Martin's personality.
“She’s somebody that’s wired the same way as me. At times that means me and Kate butt heads, but at the end of the day, we know how much we love each other. We step off the court, and it doesn’t matter, we just make each other better.”
The upcoming season will now see Martin and Clark face off again, but this time with the former playing for a new franchise. Martin's playmaking, high game awareness, and ability to get crunch buckets saw her as the Valkyries' automatic choice to add her to their roster. Only time will tell if she can shine for her new team.
As for Caitlin Clark, it will be intriguing to see how she fares in her second WNBA season. She exceeded all expectations from her as a rookie and playing under a new head coach in Stephanie White, it remains to be seen if she can continue her meteoric rise in the league. When it comes to Clark and Martin's reunion, there's always hope as long as both stars continue to shine in the league as they do now.
