When Kate Martin's girlfriend revealed behind the scenes of her first Valkyries interview
Kate Martin was drafted by the WNBA expansion team, the Golden State Valkyries, with the sixth pick on Dec. 6 from the Las Vegas Aces. After the player announcements came to an end, the former Aces star was interviewed by ESPN analysts, where she talked about her admiration for Valkyries coach Nakase.
"I'm very thankful for the Aces and everything I got to learn there, but I'm really excited for this new beginning and to build something from the ground up."
During the interview, Martin's face was behind a virtual screen, and it was quite difficult to ascertain where and who she was with during the time of the interview. However, the secret was apparently exposed minutes after the interview as her girlfriend, Claire Gransee, posted on TikTok, leading fans to claim she was in the same room as Kate Martin.
The TikTok was reposted by a user on X (formerly known as Twitter):
Kate Martin's move to the Valkyries would see her step up big after her rookie season saw her play a bit-part role for the Las Vegas Aces. Before the new season starts, she will take part in the Unrivaled league, co-founded by WNBA rivals and former UConn teammates, Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, as part of Laces Basketball Club.
Her teammates include Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum, Kayla McBride, Alyssa Thomas, Courtney Williams and Stefanie Dolson. The competition is slated to tip-off on Jan. 17 and will last for eight weeks, with games broadcasted on TNT Sports and truTV and streaming available via Max.
