Kate Martin's work off the court was praised by her trainer, Maxwell Schmarzo, on Instagram. He shared what it's like working with an athlete like Kate, and the process they go through the hard work she puts in her training regime.

"Someone like Kate has a massive following," the trainer said in the video. "A lot of people look up to her. A lot of people know who she is. But just like everyone else she has goals and aspirations of achieving certain things ... you've probably seen her in the back-to-back national championship games and the WNBA. What a lot of people don't see is the hard work that goes into it."

In response to her trainer's power video, the Golden State Valkyries player gave a salute in the comment section of the post.

Kate Martin was selected by the Golden State Valkyries in the Dec. 6 expansion draft after one season with the Las Vegas Aces. She expressed her desire to join the new franchise and an opportunity to be part of their growth from the "ground up."

Her move to the Valkyries was facilitated by coach Natalie Nakase who was an assistant coach with the Aces while Martin was there. And with the two having a cordial relationship, it offers the former Iowa Hawkeye captain the chance to play a more significant role in the WNBA.

In her rookie season with the Aces, she averaged 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.
