Disappointed Indiana Fever fans criticized Caitlin Clark's backcourt partner Kelsey Mitchell on social media for her late-game blunder in Game 2 against Connecticut Sun. Indiana lost the game 87-81.

The play in question came with less than a minute to play in the game and the Fever down by one, 78-77. Mitchell pulled up for a possible go-ahead triple that hit the front of the rim but bounced back to her. She tried to take a jumper off her rebound but decided against it midair and chose to pass instead that led to a turnover.

Indiana could not recover from there as Connecticut eked out the win that thrust it to the next round of the playoffs.

Fever fans were livid over the miscue of veteran Kelsey Mitchell. They took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their thoughts on it. Below are what some of the wrote.

One fan referenced JR Smith's mistake in Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors. After securing a rebound off a missed free throw, he ran out the clock despite the game being tied at 107. They lost the game, 124-114, and the series. They wrote:

"'Kelsey choke worser than jr smith,'
"'She is the nba version of Bradley Beal. Dribble too much and dribble that ball out of bound. Don't make good decision, which is bad for a guard,' a user drew another comparison."
"'Kelsey Mitchell is so dogs**t for that. Not the missed 3 everyone misses. But how do you chase your own rebound grab it have a wide open layup, then proceed to get scared and pass out of shot for a turnover. So bad,'" a fan moved to explain."
"Still another said, 'She's gotta have close to the worst basketball iq. Her speed is untouchable but I don't know if you can win if she doesn't understand she's the third option.'"

Some comments, meanwhile, expressed disappointment but tried to make sense of everything.

"'Lack of exp comes in here. so sad. we had a chance,' one wrote."
"'I'm sure no one feels worse about it than she does,' another chimed in."
"'Basketball is team sport, 5 players on the court at all times,' a user put into perspective."

Caitlin Clark tried to lead Indiana to extend the series to Game 3 at home, finishing with 25 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Kelsey Mitchell had 17 points but shot only 7-of-18 from the floor in the loss.

Caitlin Clark disappointed over series loss but vows to move on

The Indiana Fever were eliminated from the running after the Connecticut Sun swept them in their opening round playoff series with an 87-81 win in Game 2 of Wednesday in Uncasville.

Caitlin Clark had 25 points, nine assists and six rebounds in 40 minutes but it was not enough to carry her team and force a Game 3.

"I was focused on beating the Connecticut Sun. I haven't thought too far down the line. I don't know what I'm going to do tomorrow or what I'm going to do the next day. So, maybe play some golf..." Caitlin Clark said post-game via the IndyStar."
