After a career year with the Chicago Sky during the 2024 WNBA season, Chennedy Carter took her talents overseas to play for Wuhan Shengfan in the Women's Chinese Basketball Association. After averaging a career-high 17.5 points per game over 33 games with the Sky, Carter entered her season with Wuhan Shengfan on a high note.
On Tuesday, Carter shared a highlight on her Instagram story from one of her games in the WCBA, where she showcased her ball-handling skills before draining a mid-range bucket.
Along with the highlight from the game on her Instagram story, Carter wrote:
"Lmk if ur fav can move like this. I can't wait to see yall this summer its gonna be funny ngl"
Will Chennedy Carter re-sign with the Chicago Sky after newly appointed coach Tyler Marsh excludes her when discussing franchise's core
After being waived and missing the entirety of the 2023 WNBA season, Chennedy Carter made her triumphant return to action this past season. After signing a one-year deal with the Sky, she went on to average career highs almost across the entire board.
In addition to her aforementioned career-high of 17.5ppg on 48.7% from the floor, Carter also averaged a career-high 3.5 rebounds per game. Given that, and the fact that the Sky were in playoff contention until Angel Reese went down with an injury, many Sky fans want to see the restricted free agent stay in Chicago.
Once the offseason kicked off following the 2024 WNBA Finals, the Sky parted ways with coach Teresa Weatherspoon, bringing in newly appointed coach Tyler Marsh.
Marsh, previously an assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers and Las Vegas Aces, spoke about the team during his introductory press conference. When doing so, he emphasized the importance of cornerstone players like Angel Reese and Camilla Cardoso while discussing the importance of a deep team.
Given that Carter isn't guaranteed to return next year, he didn't mention Chennedy Carter, which could indicate that Chicago is planning to go a different way.
With plenty of time for the franchise to figure out how they will handle Carter's contract, it will be interesting to see if she winds up back in Chicago.
