The Indiana Fever fans are hyped to see who the team pairs with Caitlin Clark and the rest of the core with the No. 8 pick in the 2025 WNBA draft. Few fans have set their sights on potential first-round pick Janiah Barker, a UCLA Bruins prospect.
The interest in Barker was generated after a 2023 video of her dunking at Nike Academy resurfaced on Monday, which also impressed USC prospect JuJu Watkins. One fan referenced "Lob City," a popular monicker for the LA Clippers during the Blake Griffin-Chris Paul era, to hype Barker and Clark's potential link up.
"Lob City is coming to Gainbridge, that first dunk on the fast break gon blow the roof off. Caitlin gon throw a full court dime to Janiah for her first career dunk," the fan said.
"I been trying to tell people that is who Indiana are going to pick if it gets to them!" another fan said.
Another fan added an emoji reaction:
"janiah barker, welcome to the indiana fever baby," one fan said.
"that caitlin-janiah barker-AB lineup gon feed families. indiana fever pls do something for me," one fan wrote.
"I suggested janiah barker at #8 as our pick in one of our spaces and people laighed....she is amazing defender, athlete and highly educated in press conferences too...learned women," another fan added.
Indiana Fever widely projected to pick Aneesah Marrow as newest addition to Caitlin Clark-led core
Despite the new interest among fans for the athletic Janiah Barker, Caitlin Clark's Fever are widely projected to pick Aneesah Morrow with the eighth pick. Morrow, a 6-foot-1 prospect out of LSU, is a better fit offensively for Indiana. She's not the best of 3-point shooters, but her perimeter defense and versatile scoring inside the arc, make her a preferred pick over Barker.
Barker's subpar low-volume 3-point shooter, who connected on 34.3% of her shots from deep on 2.2 attempts in 2023-24. She averaged 12.2 points and 7.6 rebounds on 47.9% shooting. On the other hand, Morrow averaged 16.4 ppg and 10.0 rpg, shooting 46.4%. She also averaged an impressive 2.5 steals and 1.1 blocks despite being a relatively undersized wing.
With more experience than Barker, Morrow becomes a better fit on many fronts for the Caitlin Clark-led offense, which may need more perimeter scoring and defense after last year's struggles.
