Cayden Pili is a quarterback from Dimond High School and this is the first time since 1987 that a player from Diamond has won the GAPOY award. He led the Diamond to an 11-0 record in the season and also to their first-ever state championship. Pili also won the MaxPreps award earlier this year.

Alissa Pili has eight siblings and she is the second-born among her siblings. Alissa comes from an athletic family, with her siblings involved in different sports. Her older brother Brandon Pili plays in the NFL for the Seattle Seahawks.

Alissa Pili is one of Alaska's most decorated athletes

Alissa Pili is no stranger to awards herself. She is arguably the most decorated athlete from Diamond High School. During her high school basketball career, Alissa won Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year thrice. She also won MaxPreps National Female Athlete of the Year twice.

Moreover, Pili's talent was not just limited to basketball. She won 13 state championships in different sports. She won four state titles each in volleyball and shot put, two each in basketball and discus throw and one in wrestling.

Pili's father had a different mentality when it came to sports. He asked his children to pick one sport, but they had to play all.

"My dad strongly believed that if you have a God-given talent, and skill, that you shouldn't take it for granted," Alissa told Yahoo Sports. "You should use it to the best of your ability and do everything you can to kind of utilize that."

After her high school, ESPN rated her a five-star recruit. She chose to commit to the University of South Carolina. However, after personal losses in her family, Alissa took a family break and got a fresh restart with the Utah Utes.

She joined Utah for her junior year during the 2022-23 season and made an immediate impact. She won the Pac-12 Player of the Year while leading the conference in scoring. In her senior year, she led her team in scoring [21.4 ppg].

In the 2024 WNBA Draft, Alissa Pilli was selected at No. 8 by the Minnesota Lynx. In her first season with the loaded Lynx, Pili averaged only 6.3 minutes per game and averaged 2.4 points and 1.2 rebounds.
