Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese faced sharp criticism from basketball fans after a video of her poorly executed step-back jump shot during the team's 90-71 loss to the Las Vegas Aces went viral on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the first quarter, with the Sky trailing 17-8.
Reese created separation with a smooth one-dribble step-back but missed the mark completely, sending the ball out of bounds without even grazing the rim. In her defense, Reese had to take the shot with only three seconds left on the shot clock.
The hoops fans ripped Reese, with one fan unleashing a harsh reaction and calling the rookie's jump shot the "ugliest" they'd ever seen.
"That’s legitimately the ugliest jump shot I’ve ever seen. Makes Shaq look like Curry."
Another X user was in disbelief at Reese taking more shot attempts than fellow rookie Kamilla Cardoso.
"I can’t believe they are still letting her shoot more than double the shots to cardoso."
One of the fans hilariously claimed that Reese should get in touch with Steph Curry to improve her shooting mechanics.
"HER SHOT POSTURE IS UGLY 😂😂😂. Horrible shooting mechanics. She SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO call CURRY for some advice."
Several fans took a shot at Angel Reese's candidacy for the Rookie of the Year award.
"She is so bad people must be trolling her when they say #ROTY and #MVP! #WNBA #BrickReese," a fan wrote.
"Not even the best rookie on her team," said another X user.
One of the fans even brought Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green, who has also been criticized for his poor shooting, into the conversation.
"Draymond has better form than that."
Another rough shooting game for Angel Reese
Angel Reese notched her 25th double-double of the season, but she continued to struggle offensively in the Chicago Sky’s latest loss against the Aces. The 22-year-old rookie had an inefficient night, shooting just 4-of-12 from the field, including 0-of-1 from beyond the arc, finishing the game with 12 points to go with 16 rebounds.
Reese was thoroughly outclassed by MVP frontrunner A'ja Wilson, who delivered a dominant 30-point, 14-rebound double-double performance. Wilson shot 10-of-19 from the field and 1-of-4 from 3-point range, while also contributing three assists, two steals, and three blocks.
The Sky, now on a seven-game losing streak, are in dire need of a turnaround as their playoff chances dwindle. With seven teams already clinching playoff spots, Chicago’s postseason hopes are hanging by a thread, with just one spot remaining to be occupied.
